French II

Objective:

Know: French Illnesses

Do: Describe a scene

Sorry for being out again. This one was planned for quite a while.  I don’t like being out after having been out for so long just a week ago, but there was no avoiding it.

The plan for today is simple, but at the same time complex.

First:

  1. Go to https://quizlet.com/206545931/tes-branche-unit-9b-flash-cards/
  2. Practice the terms
  3. Take the quiz on the end and test yourself

Secondly:

  1. Get a workbook from the back of the room (floppy white and blue book).
  2. Do p. 246 – 248, ex 15A, 16A, 18B, 19B.

Thirdly:

  1. This is where it gets weird. There’s a storyboard on my desk.  Take one of those.
  2. There is a play, called La Malade Imaginaire.
  3. In a few lines, I’ll post the plot summary. Using all 12 blocks on your story board, map out where you think the plot will go and in the lines below the blocks, include the necessary dialogue.  Spend some time and make it nice.  The more time you spend on this, the easier it will be for you across the next 2 periods after this.

**The plot is thick and complex.  It’s not required that you get the plot correct, rather that you keep the general theme going and use our terms that we’ve been working on.  **

Here’s the plot line:

Argan is a rich man, who, wanting to have in his family a doctor always at hand, because of his many pretended sicknesses, intends to give his daughter, Angelique, in marriage to the new-made Dr. Diafoirus, the nephew of Purgon, his physician. (Because remember, he wants to have a doctor close by)

Both Argan believes fully in his abilities while Diafoirus thinks Argan is full of poop, which is furthered by the cutting remarks of the servant, Toisette.

A little extra for flavor: These two characters form an agreeable contrast with those of Beralde-Argan’s brother, a man of good sense-and the suitor of Angelique, Cleante, whose modest and graceful manners are pleasing; whilst the delicate sentiments and sound reason of Angelique stand opposed to the affected mildness and treacherous advice of Beline, Argan’s wife, whose object is to deprive her step-children of their father’s property, but who is baffled in this attempt by an artifice planned by Toinette.
